Melissa Ludwig is originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan and grew up training with the School of the Grand Rapids Ballet Company.  She joined the Grand Rapids Ballet Company her senior year of highschool and, upon graduation, was offered a contract with Milwaukee Ballet II.  After spending only one year with MBII, Ms. Ludwig was promoted to the main company and then moved to Texas to dance with Ballet Austin for four seasons.  While dancing with Ballet Austin, Ms. Ludwig enjoyed performing featured roles in Stephen Mills’ Touch and The Nutcracker.  She also had works by Thaddeus Davis, Sidra Bell, and Gina Patterson choreographed on her.   

In 2010 Ms. Ludwig moved to Houston to join Ad Deum Dance Company, and had the opportunity to tour with them to Switzerland and London.  She joined Bay Area Houston Ballet and Theatre in Clear Lake, TX in 2012 as an Artist in Residence. Ms. Ludwig spent five seasons with BAHBT, performing both classical and contemporary work. She enjoyed performing roles such as the Lilac Fairy in Sleeping Beauty, the Fairy Godmother in Cinderella, Sugar Plum, Snow Queen, and Rose in The Nutcracker, Lead Vampire in Dracula, The Dying Swan, as well as the soloist in Mujeres and Bolero. She has also performed with BAHBT in works by Dwain Travis, Heather Steele, Natalie Zundel, and Ayman Harper, including an art installation in Rocket Park at the Nasa Space Center where she danced underneath the Saturn V Rocket.   

Ms. Ludwig has had the opportunity to perform as a guest artist in many different productions. Her most recent performance was as the Stepmother and the Autumn Fairy with Misty Copeland in Open World Dance Foundation's production of Cinderella at the Hobby Center. She was honored to share the stage with such an incredible artist.  Ms. Ludwig also spent four summers with the Masterworks Festival in Indiana, where she performed as Firebird in The Firebird, Myrtha in Giselle, and Big Swan in Swan Lake, all staged by Charmaine Hunter. At the Masterworks Festival she also danced lead roles in Caleb Mitchell's Dawn, Layers Removed, and Forbearance, as well as Steve Rooks' Perserverance.  Ms. Ludwig is a frequent guest artist with Juxtapose Arts Collective, and has performed with them in many different festivals in the Houston and surrounding areas. She has also performed as a guest artist with The Dance Project in Austin, TX. 

Ms. Ludwig is a highly sought after ballet teacher and coach.  In Houston, she has taught on staff at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Memorial Dance Center, and Divine Dance Academy. Ms. Ludwig also teaches Master Classes, Summer Intensives, and private lessons for many other academies and companies in the Houston and Austin area.
